Petworth Drive, June 18

Four turnouts came along to the Petworth drive this year, and we headed off on the 8 mile route around the park and through the Leconfield Estate. The weather was kind to us this year and the ground was good throughout most of the drive. It’s always a pleasurable drive through Petworth Estate and we are very lucky to be able to have permission to use this venue.

This year there was a considerable increase in the venue’s fee, therefore requiring the increase in turnout fee for the event. However, even with the increase it would be a shame to lose the venue due to costs and lack of support. I cannot encourage enough for members who have not attended a social drive to give it a go. There’s full support and encouragement to enjoy the driving sport from the committee and club members.

Three of the turnouts were Friesians and a first time convoy pony all doing slow to medium pace enabling whips to take in the beautiful surroundings.

I would like to encourage all members to continue to attend the drives to help keep the permissive route available to the club on an annual basis, plus it makes all the paperwork and organisation worthwhile. Hope to see you all again in the future.

Happy Driving season for 2018
